About Welcome House

Formerly South County Emergency Shelter, Welcome House of South County was developed in 1986 as a night to night shelter in church basements throughout Washington County. In 1987 it was incorporated and a 501-C-3 was granted. In 1989 the current building was purchased and rehabbed and Welcome House started taking its first overnight guests at the present address, 8 North Road.

Welcome House is governed by a Board of Directors who meet 11 times a year. We have a full-time Executive Director and a full-time Assistant Executive Director plus two part-time House Managers who work 4pm to 10 pm nightly.

We have space for 17 single men and women, two of these beds are handicap accessible, as is the building. We are currently undergoing a structural stabilization which we anticipate to be completed this summer.

Additionally, we have 10 family units of supported transitional or supported permanent housing for families, two threshold units (supported permanent housing for the mentally disabled) and two units which hold 4 single women and three single men in supported transitional housing. This grant supports a full-time case manager (for transitional housing only) and a quarter-time social worker that oversee the project
