Helping End Homelessness in Washington County

Emergency Shelter

Welcome House's emergency shelter at 8 North Road offers a 30-90 day program, which accommodates 17 formerly homeless men and women. We are open 365 days/year with support services for all individuals taking comfort under our roof. Our small setting offers a personal approach to recovery. Every guest works with a case manager who assists with accessing services, setting goals, budgeting, and locating affordable housing.

Our programmatic approach is designed to strengthen each guest’s life skills, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency. Each and every person is treated with respect and individualized case plans are used to target and work on a guest’s personal goals to lead them out of homelessness.

During the months of November through March, Welcome House also offers an overflow shelter at a satellite location in collaboration with Peace Dale Congregational Church. This drop-in shelter offers nightly comfort from the winter's harsh elements for those who would otherwise be sleeping in cars or outdoors.

In addition to emergency shelter programs, Welcome House owns and operates 6 community housing properties, which accommodate to up to 23 individuals in our Transitional Housing Program and 11 individuals and families in our Permanent Supportive Housing Program.

Approximately 75-80 people, currently including 19 children, are assisted daily through Welcome House's vital programs. Last year, we provided assistance to 224 different people.

Transitional Housing

Welcome House operates a one year transitional housing program designated for individuals who complete the emergency shelter program. The main goal of the transitional housing program is to provide supportive services to help clients to obtain permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Supportive Permanent Housing

Affordable housing is almost non-existent in our area. There is also a scarcity of rental subsidies and long wait lists for subsidized housing. Welcome House helps local individuals and families by offering supportive permanent housing opportunities.

Welcome House operates a one year transitional housing program designated for individuals who complete the emergency shelter program. The main goal of the transitional housing program is to provide supportive services to help clients to obtain permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Community Soup Kitchen

Welcome House offers a community soup kitchen every Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. (except holidays), which is located in our main facility at 8 North Road in Peace Dale, RI. All individuals and families in need are welcome to join us for lunch. Each year, we produce over 18,000 meals for guests and community members in our commercial kitchen.
